buckle up

in other intense shoe news, i discovered a pair of topshop wedges (above) that simply must appear in my closet by summertime. i only refrain from saying "immediately" because, sadly, they are temporarily sold out. they are exactly what i've been looking for ever since chloe sevigny designed those awesome shoes for opening ceremony, seen on chloe herself, leighton meester, & hanneli mustaparta below:

when i was in new york last summer, nearly every editor had a pair of these statement-making shoes (or at least a very similar style). they look cool with literally everything -- skinny pants, crisp dresses, leather shorts... they give an extra oomph to even the most basic outfits. i never thought in a million years i would be able to find an affordable alternative, but topshop's are just $120 (a bargain compared to the chloe sevigny x OC $600+ price tag). fingers crossed they restock them one of these days! (ps: i prefer the black/silver pair but they also come in brown and black/gold)

a little sparkle

 { image via stockholm street style }

this is one of those pictures that makes me wonder if i live under a rock. seriously. how have i not thought to buy a metallic purple coat before?!

well, mostly because i'm not ezgi kiramer, to put it simply. it's a harsh truth. (btw, she told us it's balenciaga - should've known!)

not only is this a super unique and stylish piece, but as you can see, it can be dressed down and worn a million different ways by throwing in a few basics.  and yes, leather pants are indeed a basic, and a slouchy white tee (plus showstopping prada heels) truly makes everything cooler.

i'm loving shimmery finishes on anything, as evident in my recent post about the APC x vanessa seward collaboration, which features covetable icy blue and champagne separates. it's truthfully all i want right now.

follow ezgi's lead and be one of the first to wear a shimmer-finish piece this season -- a few little ideas below:

mary katrantzou for topshop, round 2

i wrote about my excitement for the covetable mary katrantzou x topshop line back in october, which may have felt wildly anticlimactic. you were probably asking yourself, will this heavenly brand ever find its way into my wardrobe?!
i know, i know. i felt that way too. every day.
but i'm happy to tell you the topshop line is FINALLY here! and it's even greater than i imagined. critics weren't kidding when they said kantrantzou's topshop line would look like the legitimate runway looks in budget-friendly form. for those of you who went out on a limb and bought the real deal, well... you may feel jilted. but the rest of us should rejoice. rejoice and jump for joy!
i'm a sucker for florals, and when you combine florals like this... you get euphoria. katrantzou's name has become synonymous with mixed digitized floral prints on structured silhouettes, and rightfully so: she studied at risd and central saint martins to get her BA and MA in textile design. who do you think was the brightest student in the class? katrantzou's ss2012 line also won the award for emerging talent at the british fashion awards. not surprising in the least.

but finally, behold: your first peek at the line. it hits stores & the web on february 17.
that's in 2 days. prepare yourselves.

le smoking {flat}

{all flats, topshop}

a true fashion victim, i've been on a painstaking mission for chic, flattering, affordable smoking flats for months; they look equally amazing with rolled trousers, full skirts, and your favorite jeans. i'm all about versatility. and while you may think i'm repeating myself after my post about j.crew loafers, i'll have you know smoking flats are very different than your standard loafer. a lower vamp and sleeker silhouette make these markedly more feminine and wearable versus a menswear-inspired penny loafer. (details, people.)

anyways. i think i've finally found suitable (and affordable) smoking flat options! topshop always kills it with their shoe selection, but they're especially on their game with these studded, spotted, and suede beauties. now all i have to do is choose one... (can't i just get them all?!) truthfully, i'm leaning towards the taupe leopard or beige studded varieties. i'm a sucker for good nude shoes!
